ORBAN OPTIMOD AM Model 9100A Audio Processor# II: Only serious buyers, please. This Optimod 9100A Audio Processor (Mono) is one of four identical units and was removed from PE racks of the Lihbab 4x350 kW AM SW broadcast radio station demolished due to reason that it was handed over by the Dubai Government to a private company who quickly realized their unability to run such a great setup. After their numerous attempts to lease it out to foreigh broadcasters it eventually went under hammer of scrap companies together with another great 1500kW AM MW station on the coast, whose optimods I have sold last week. This station was built on 1979 with four 350 kW Marconi transmitters capable to combine theit power or to work separately onto direction switcheable antenna system utilizing 14 towers supporting multi curtain phased dipole arrays covering entire SW band delivering 4 programs simultaneously. It was on air till 2004, when it was shut down although fully operational and well maintained by british engineers. I was lucky to pull this nice and clean Optimod as well as another one listed separately and some other equipment from hammer of a scrap company engaiged in this vandalism. This unit (after sale of first two) was simply checked alongwith five others (were not yet shipped) by applying audio from a PC card while input was hooked to one of channel of stereo available. Even though I did not expect good results from connecting balanced I/ O ports with unbalanced source and amplifier I was able to understand that unit works fine, all controls had adequate reaction, all meters work flawlesly and all six optimods behaved identically. I was able to note how Day / Night switch adds / cuts trebbles (possibly in accordance with preset profiles) , a Clipping control knob that makes sound more plain or dynamically wider, Attenuation that allows to match output level of the optimod with sensitivity of my stereo, Gate, Dence, Bass, High-all seam work properly. I made this testing due to the endless questions and requests received during my previous auctions so the two first units were also checked and found OK. This unit as all others had cut off screened twisted pair wires (evidence that it was in operation till last minute) , which I removed for brushing dust and testing. This unit looks cosmetically almost like new. Unfortunately I don`t have manuals and ability to check it up further with instruments like oscilloscope or distortion analyzer and selling it as it is, with not ROR or guarantee. The serial number is 639296. Unit is currently set to 220VAC mains but can be switched to 110VAC easily.
