 | | After the emergence of GPS PDAs in 2004, the market for PND (Portable Navigation Device) has continued to grow from strength to strength. According to the Institute for Information Industry’s Market Intelligence Center, 2007 global PND shipments will reach 2.6 million units in 2007. 2.3 million of these will be Pure PNDs, far outstripping GPS PDA’s 2.89 million units and firmly establishing Pure PND's status in the mainstream market. The PND industry chain is made up of three key elements: hardware, software and map information. Taiwanese manufacturers now account for over 70% of the global production and possess a complete industry chain. The very competitive market however is gradually changing the shape of the industry chain. In the future, competitiveness will come from vertical integration or diversification. |
