At 27, he journeyed to China as a missionary and was called to the Imperial Court as a painter. He was skilled in painting figures, birds-and-flowers, and especially horses and dogs. Ayusi was a Zunghar chieftain in Sinkiang during the Ch’ien-lung emperor’s reign (1735-1796). Hearing of his bravery, the emperor summoned and appointed him a member of the Imperial Guard. In 1755, Ayusi won a great battle for the Ch'ing army. For this, the emperor wrote an ode and ordered him to appear at court, when Castiglione did this portrait.Other:These above pictures are reprints of the famous paintings housed in National Palace Museum.
